Chiang Rai & Rice

We finally reach Chiang Rai another ancient capital of the Lanna kingdom and check into our hotel for the night. we have half an hour to freshen up and then its off to the Night Bazaar. We buy a few souvenirs before returning to our hotel exhausted, we fall asleep straight away in spite of next doors blaring TV.

The area between Chiang Rai and Mae Sai is one of the most productive rice growing areas in Thailand as they can plant two crops of rice a year, the second was just being planted and will be harvested after the rainy season. Northern Thailand is renown for its sticky rice while Jasmine rice and long grain rice is grown more in the central area of Thailand.
