Wat Pho

Over 95% of Thais are practising Buddists and everywhere you see shrines adorned with flowers, incense and candles, although I think this is more to do with appeasing spirits rather than Buddism.

Wat Pho or The Temple of the Reclining Buddha is one of the largest and oldest Wat (temple) in Bangkok. As well as the very large and very long Reclining Buddha it houses over 1000 other statues of Buddha and is also famous for its massage school. It is undergoing an extensive programme of restoration at the moment.







We both enjoyed a traditional Thai massage in the modern air conditioned dark glass building within the temple walls. I had a fantastic foot massage for 45 mins, which used reflexology pressure points. Keith had the full works. You keep your clothes on for this, pressure is applied to areas of the body and apparently there is a fair amount of stretching, finger pulling and so on administered.
